This is an educational program, offering the beginning horseman the opportunity to acquire a solid foundation of equine knowledge and skills. It challenges the experienced horseman to build upon this established foundation and to achieve excellence and distinction.
The program offers Region level competition whereby each participant qualifies to compete for the title CSHA State Champion and a scholarship.
Any CSHA member in good standing may participate.
Five riding categories are offered: English (Jumping), English II (flat only), Gymkhana (barrels and poles), Western (Stock Seat) and Combined (Jumping and Stock Seat).
Within each category there are 2 divisions, Juniors and Adults. Youths who have not reached the age of 18 years by December 1 of the previous year are considered Juniors.
Region and State participants engage in three phases of competition:
Written examination 350 points
Riding examination 600 points
Grooming examination 100 points
The written examination is derived from information contained in the 2004 edition of the Horseman's Handbook and the Horsemastership section of the CSHA rulebook. The Horseman's Handbook is available either as a CD ROM (in MS Word and "book marked") or as a printed hardcopy.
