English/Western Program

The California State Horsemen’s Association’s English/Western division offers a competitive program in four categories: English, Western, Reining and Halter. An exhibitor must be a member of CSHA and register within his/her Region as a horse/rider combination or horse/handler combination to compete for year-end awards. In order to qualify for the Show of Champions an exhibitor must be registered in their region’s high-point program, pre-register for the Show of Champions prior to competing in at least three regional shows and be one of the top-ten horse/exhibitor combinations within their age break within their discipline.  Exhibitors may compete in the following divisions:

English
Lead line (riders 6 years and younger)
10 and under (walk/trot classes only)
13 and under
14 – 17
18 – 34 (must possess a valid amateur card)
35 and over (must possess a valid amateur card)
Open  (Any rider including those who do not qualify for an amateur card)

Western
Lead line (riders 6 years and younger)
10 and under (walk/jog classes only)
13 and under
14 – 17
18 – 34 (must possess a valid amateur card)
35 and over (must possess a valid amateur card)
Open  (Any rider including those who do not qualify for an amateur card)

Reining
Junior (17 and under)
Senior (18 and over in possession of a valid amateur card)
Open (Any rider including those who do not qualify for an amateur card)

Halter
Junior Horse (5 years and younger)
            Junior Handler (17 and under)
            Senior Handler (18 and over and in possession of a valid amateur card)
Open (Any handler including those who do not qualify for an amateur card)
Senior Horse (6 years and older)
            Junior Handler (17 and under)
            Senior Handler (18 and over and in possession of a valid amateur card)
Open (Any handler including those who do not qualify for an amateur card)
Open Horse (any age horse)
            Open Division handler who does not qualify for an amateur card

Any exhibitor who wishes to compete at the Show of Champions in the Open Division in any discipline must pre-register for the Open Division and compete in three shows in the Open Division.

The Show of Champions is held in October in a centrally located area to showcase the champions from each region.  Each region in entitled to send its top-ten horse/rider combinations in each age break in English, Western and Reining and its top-ten horse/handler in each age break in Halter.
